Citing multiple sources, reporter John Mitchell writes that the Wizards don't Gilbert Arenas anywhere near John Wall and will do almost anything to rid themselves of Arenas as quickly as possible.
.] Livingston is an unrestricted free agent and I don't see him returning to D.C. if the Wizards have Wall and Arenas under contract. However, if Gilbert is gone I can see Livingston returning for about $5 million a year to play in a 2-guard back court with John Wall, a combination I think would be very effective. Of course, some will say Livingston at his best isn't as good as Arenas at his best and Livingston is also a major injury risk. It's true that Gilbert at his best is better than Livingston, but Livingston is probably no more of an injury risk than Gilbert is at this point. Personally, I'd rather have a 24-year-old Livingston at $5 million per year than 29-year-old Gilbert at $20 million a year for the next four years.
It's a mistake to buy out Arenas or trade him for trash -- unless that trash has contracts that end at next June -- but I have no problem trading Gilbert, particularly if it keeps Livingston in town.
