Wizards may change name back to Bullets
Something I've wished for ever since the awful name Wizards was imposed upon us Washington, D.C. pro basketball fans could come to pass: a name-change back to Bullets. Over at Ted's Take, Wizards & Caps owner Ted Leonsis has listed 101 things he's doing to listen to the fans to upgrade their experience. Some of them are relatively banal, like making sure condiment holders are always filled and hot dog buns are warm. However, number 31 on the list is Change Wizards' Team Name Back to Bullets. Leonsis lists that one as under consideration.
Does that mean anything is imminent? Not necessarily. One request is that the Wizards draft more local college products and that one is also listed as under consideration. However, I'm pretty sure Leonsis wants his management team to draft the best players possible, whether they come from Maryland, Arizona or Croatia. In other words, some or all of those suggestions listed as under consideration may be under consideration forever.
However, it is unlikely that Leonsis is unaware of how unpopular the name Wizards is with many long-time fans of the franchise. I suspect an actual team name change, to go along with the team's reversion to red, white & blue team uniforms, really is under consideration. Let's hope Ted Leonsis makes the right call and puts the Bullets back in the team name.
