Sports Bus Journal: Leonsis among most influential
The Sports Business Journal put out it's Top 50 most influential people in Sports. Welcome to the list Ted Leonsis.
It really is not difficult to figure out why Leonsis has skyrocketed up the list. Not only does he own the Washington Capitals NHL franchise, a franchise that he revived hockey in the nation's capital, but he recently purchased NBA's Washington Wizards fromthe estate of late owner Abe Pollin. Along with the Wizards comes the Verizon Center, which will also make Leonsis' Capitals franchise healthier, financially. Leonsis deserves the recognition especially considering how he has reshaped Washington DC pro sports, in just a few years. His sports empire reigns supreme in DC and his quest for a Stanley Cup and NBA Championship are on the forefront of his mind, and he has proven, he is not afraid to spend to do it.
He has built the Washington Capitals around a young super star, Alexander Ovechkin. He plans to do the same with the Wizards, around 19 year old John Wall.
Now his franchises need to prove his methods correct.
