Wizards will play a game in Brazil next season
ESPN 980 is reporting that the Washington Wizards will play a preseason game with the Chicago Bulls in Brazil next year. The means Wizards big man Nene would get to play in the first NBA game to be played in his home country.
Basketball is popular in Brazil so it is natural that the NBA would stage some preseason or regular season games there in the hopes of boosting it even further. Apart from Nene, NBA players born in Brazil include Leandro Barbosa, who joined the Wizards as part of the Jordan Crawford trade, but is injured and will miss the rest of the season, as well as big men Anderson Varejao and Tiago Splitter.
If the Brazil game is well attended and receives favorable media attention, the preseason match is probably a precursor to playing an actual regular season game there.
